Poetry Prompts: 694 Every Wednesday, Robert Lee Brewer shares a prompt and an example poem to get things started for poets. This week, write a possibilities poem. For this week’s prompt, write a possibilities poem. Write a poem about things that are possible, even if not likely. Or write a poem about things that aren’t possible that you wish were. Or write a poem about things that are likely, but for whatever reason are impossible. Only you know what is possible with this one.

In the realm of the midnight sun,
Where dreams are both lost and won,
Lies a subtle, silent plea,
For all that could or might not be.
Imagine oceans floating in the sky,
Where whales and albatross fly,
And boats, with sails unfurled,
Glide softly around the world.
Consider a symphony played by the rain,
Each drop a note, a sweet refrain,
Where thunder claps keep the time,
And lightning strikes in rhythm and rhyme.
What if words could heal as they speak,
Turning the strongest to the weak,
And a whisper could undo a curse,
Change the universe, or something worse?
Suppose our shadows danced at night,
Alive with color and with light,
Telling stories old as time,
In pantomime, in silent mime.
And think of love that knows no end,
A broken heart, forever mend,
Or pain that fades with morning’s dew,
As if the ache were something new.
In dreams, all things are possible,
In waking life, just plausible,
Yet still we dare to wish and hope,
On this vast, improbable slope.
