Let’s Get Creative!
Hey there, fellow scribblers and story-weavers! It’s time for this week’s Writer’s Workshop. With a fresh batch of prompts to tickle your creative fancy. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick chuckle or a deep dive into nostalgia, Writer’s Workshop has got you covered. Let’s jump in!
Prompt 1: Write a post inspired by the word: counter.
Me: staring at the kitchen counter covered in flour and sugar
Friend: “Baking again, huh?”
Me: “If by baking you mean conducting a sugar explosion, then yes.”
Friend: picks up a whisk “Need help?”
Me: “Only if you can counter this mess with actual cookies.”
Prompt 2: Write a post in exactly 7 lines.
Sunburnt noses,
Ice cream drips.
Beach ball tosses,
Quick lake dips.
Flip-flop echoes,
Summer bliss.
Days like this, we’ll miss.
Prompt 3: A list of at least three ways to beat the summer heat.
- Popsicle Pile-Up: Buy every flavor of popsicle you can find, and then spend the afternoon taste-testing them in front of a fan. Pro tip: Orange creamsicles are a must.
- Sprinkler Dance Party: Channel your inner child. Set up a sprinkler in your yard, blast your favorite summer hits, and dance like nobody’s watching. Trust me, it’s liberating.
- Movie Marathon Madness: Hide from the sun and binge-watch every summer blockbuster in an air-conditioned room. Don’t forget the popcorn—and maybe some ice-cold lemonade.
Prompt 4: Share an old photo and let it inspire a blog post.
Holds up a photo of 10-year-old me wearing oversized sunglasses and a bucket hat, standing next to a sandcastle that looks more like a lump of sand.
Me: “Ah, the glory days. This was my first beach trip. I spent hours crafting what I was sure would be a sandcastle masterpiece.”
Friend: “Looks more like a sand blob.”
Me: “Exactly. A blob of dreams and endless summer days.”
Prompt 5: Share something you learned in June.
Friend: “So, what did you learn last month?”
Me: “That plants actually need water to stay alive.”
Friend: “You didn’t know that?”
Me: “I did, but my dead fern was a harsh reminder. RIP, Fernie.”
Prompt 6: Write about the last time you got soaked.
Scene: Last Saturday’s barbecue.
Me: holding a squirt gun “Truce?”
Niece: holding a bigger squirt gun “Never!”
Cue the water fight of the century.
By the end, I was soaked head to toe, but nothing beats the joy of winning a water battle against a seven-year-old. Spoiler: I lost.
So, what are you waiting for? Pick a prompt (or five) and get writing! The Writer’s Workshop is open to anyone and everyone. Share your posts, laugh a little, and let’s get those creative juices flowing. Happy writing!
