Our host for today’s poem is 2024 April Poem A Day Challenge: Day 2. We are to write a poem every day of April with the 2024 April Poem-A-Day Challenge. For today’s prompt, we have our first two-for-Tuesday prompt.

For today’s prompt, we have our first two-for-Tuesday prompt, which means you get two prompts. You can write to one of the prompts, both the prompts separately, or try to write a poem that works with both prompts at the same time. The prompts are:

  1. Write a happy poem, and/or…
  2. Write a sad poem.

A Day of Contrasts

Morning Smile

Sunlight spills through the open window,
Dancing across the kitchen tiles,
A cup of tea, warm and mellow,
Breezes carry the laughter of miles.

Butterflies twirl in gardens of delight,
Children’s cheers fill the air,
Each bloom under the sunlight,
Shares a story of a day beyond compare.

Evening Sigh

The glow fades into twilight’s embrace,
Shadows stretch, reaching like thoughts,
Silence fills the once lively place,
Memories flicker, tied in knots.

A lone figure by the window stands,
Watching days turn into years,
Empty cups in unwashed hands,
The quiet heavy with unspoken fears.

Two halves of one spinning globe,
Joy and sorrow, side by side,
Life’s loom weaves with a patient probe,
In every heart, both reside.
