This post is in response to dVerse Poets Haibun Monday 9-25-23: Equinox write haibun that states or references the Vernal or Autumnal Equinox.
Balance of Light
The day hangs in perfect symmetry, where the sun neither favors dawn nor dusk. It’s a fleeting pause between seasons, a moment of stillness where neither warmth nor cold prevails. Leaves flutter in indecision, some clinging to green, others turning gold. In this brief equilibrium, the earth exhales, holding its breath before the long nights come creeping in.
A single leaf falls,
on the line between shadows,
day and night entwined.
This haibun evokes the quiet shift of balance during the Autumnal Equinox, where nature hesitates on the cusp of change. Here’s one for the Vernal Equinox:
Spring’s Awakening
Morning light filters through the budding branches, casting a soft glow on the dewy grass. The air is filled with the scent of fresh blooms and the promise of new beginnings. This is the Vernal Equinox, a moment when the world awakens from its winter slumber, poised on the cusp of rebirth.
Cherry blossoms bloom,
Heralds of spring’s gentle kiss—
Day and night embrace.
As the day unfolds, the warmth of the sun coaxes life from the soil. Birds sing their joyous songs, and the earth hums with the energy of renewal. In this moment, we are reminded of the cyclical nature of life, the balance between dormancy and growth.
What do you think? Does it capture the essence of the Vernal Equinox ?
