The Lost Heir Pt3: Awakening

Aria woke up to the sound of silence, broken only by the faint ringing in her ears. The world around her felt distant, muffled, as if she were underwater. Slowly, her vision came into focus, revealing the chamber she’d been in moments ago—except now, it was a ruin. The stone walls were cracked, debris littered the floor, and the once-majestic pedestal had been split in two.

She blinked, trying to piece together what had just happened. One second, she’d felt the surge of magic inside her, and the next…everything had exploded. Literally.

“Kade?” she croaked, her throat dry and sore.

There was no response. Panic gripped her as she scrambled to her feet, her limbs shaky. Her body felt foreign, as if it hadn’t quite caught up with whatever her magic had done. She looked around frantically, searching for any sign of Kade or the Shadow Guard.

Finally, she spotted him—lying near the far wall, half-buried under a pile of rubble. “Kade!” she cried, rushing toward him.

He groaned as she knelt beside him, his face pale and streaked with dust. His dark hair was a mess, and his normally cocky grin was nowhere to be found. But he was alive.

“Aria…you okay?” he muttered, wincing as he tried to sit up.

“Am I okay? Are you serious?” She shook her head, half in disbelief, half in relief. “I thought you were dead.”

“Almost.” He gave her a weak smile. “But not yet.”

Her eyes flicked to the debris surrounding them. There were no signs of the Shadow Guard. She wasn’t sure whether they’d been killed or driven off, but for now, they were alone.

“I…did that, didn’t I?” Aria whispered, staring at the destruction she’d caused. Her hands trembled as she looked down at them, expecting to see some kind of mark, some sign of the power she’d unleashed, but there was nothing. Just skin.

Kade’s eyes softened as he sat up, groaning. “Yeah. You did.”

“I didn’t mean to. I just—I lost control, and—”

“Hey.” He reached out, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. “You saved us. I don’t know how, but you did.”

Aria swallowed hard, guilt and fear mixing in her chest. She’d always known her magic was dangerous, but now she had proof. She was a walking disaster. What if next time, she hurt someone she cared about? What if next time, Kade wasn’t so lucky?

He must’ve seen the fear in her eyes, because he gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “We’ll figure it out. Together.”

She nodded, though uncertainty still gnawed at her. “What do we do now?”

Kade glanced around the ruined chamber, his expression darkening. “Rathor’s men will come back. And when they do, they won’t be so easy to fight off.”

“So we run?”

“Not this time.” He turned to face her, his expression serious. “If we keep running, Rathor will keep hunting you. The only way to end this is to face him head-on.”

Aria stared at him, feeling the weight of his words. “You’re saying I have to go back. To Elaris.”

Kade nodded. “It’s time, Aria. You’re the rightful heir. If you reclaim the throne, Rathor loses his claim to power. He won’t be able to use your magic against you—or anyone else.”

The idea of going to a world she’d never seen, to a throne she’d never wanted, felt like too much. How was she supposed to lead a kingdom when she could barely lead herself out of a library?

“But I don’t know how to be…a queen,” she admitted quietly, her voice small. “I don’t even know who I really am.”

Kade’s gaze softened, his usual cockiness replaced by something sincere. “You’re stronger than you realize, Aria. You’ve been through hell, and you’re still standing. That’s who you are. And I’ll be there, every step of the way. You don’t have to do this alone.”

For a moment, she let herself believe him. Let herself think that maybe, just maybe, she was capable of more than she’d ever imagined.

“Okay,” she said finally, the word barely a whisper. “Let’s do it. Let’s go to Elaris.”

Chapter Five: A World Beyond

The journey to Elaris wasn’t what Aria expected. There was no glowing portal, no grand spectacle of light and magic. Instead, it was Kade leading her down a hidden path in the forest just outside the city, his sword slung across his back, his expression grim but determined.

“This way,” he said, pulling aside a thick curtain of vines to reveal an ancient stone archway. It looked like it had been abandoned for centuries, overgrown with ivy and moss. But as Aria stepped closer, she felt the air around it hum with power.

“This is it?” she asked, glancing at Kade.

He nodded. “This is the gate to Elaris. It only opens for those with royal blood.”

Aria hesitated, staring at the archway. “So…what, I just walk through?”

“Pretty much.”

She took a deep breath, her heart pounding. If she crossed that threshold, there was no going back. She would be leaving behind everything she knew, stepping into a world that was hers by birthright, but utterly foreign to her.

Before she could talk herself out of it, she stepped forward. The air seemed to shimmer around her, and for a moment, she felt a strange pull, like the universe itself was holding its breath.

Then, she crossed the threshold, and the world exploded in color.

Elaris was nothing like Earth.

The sky was a deep, twilight blue, streaked with silver clouds that seemed to glow faintly. The landscape stretched out before her—rolling hills dotted with strange, luminescent trees, rivers that sparkled like liquid stars, and in the distance, the towering spires of a castle that looked like it had been carved from the night sky itself.

Aria stared in awe, her breath catching in her throat. It was beautiful, in a way that felt both familiar and alien. Like stepping into a dream she’d forgotten she’d had.

“Welcome home,” Kade said quietly, stepping up beside her.

Home. The word felt strange, heavy with meaning she wasn’t sure she was ready to confront.

“This is…incredible,” she whispered, her eyes wide as she took in the sight before her.

Kade smiled, but there was a tension in his posture. “It’s not all like this. Rathor’s influence has spread to many parts of Elaris. You’ll see soon enough.”

Her stomach tightened at the mention of Rathor. The tyrant who had killed her parents, who had hunted her across worlds, and who now wanted to use her power to wage war on both realms. She had to stop him, but the thought of facing him—of confronting the man who had destroyed her family—was almost too much to bear.

“You’ll have allies,” Kade said, as if sensing her unease. “Not everyone has fallen under Rathor’s rule. There are still those who believe in the rightful queen.”

Aria swallowed hard. “Do you believe in me?”

Kade’s gaze softened. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”

They stood in silence for….Continue Pt4 Here
