This week’s W3 prompt poem (above), composed by Jude: Jude’s prompt guidelines

THEME: “The Beauty of Night”

FORM: Haibun

POETIC DEVICE: Onomatopoeia (3x)

The Beauty of Night

The city breathes a sigh as the sun dips below the horizon, leaving a canvas of twilight blues and purples. I step out onto my balcony, the air cool and fresh, carrying the scent of jasmine and earth. Crickets begin their nightly symphony, a soothing chirp, chirp that resonates through the silence.

Above, the sky sparkles with a thousand tiny lights, each star a whisper of ancient stories. The moon rises, full and luminous, casting a silver sheen over the world. The gentle rustle of leaves in the evening breeze whispers secrets known only to the night.

I walk through the quiet streets, the soft click-clack of my shoes the only reminder of civilization. Shadows play on the walls, and the occasional owl hoots, a guardian of the dark. The beauty of night lies in its stillness, in the way it invites introspection and peace.

Moonlight dances
on silent streets, crickets sing—
Night whispers softly.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been doing a lot of walking lately, Celeste, but this line just grabbed me – and your whole piece is simply delightful to read. Such vivid imagery!
