Poe’s Prosery #dVerse

 Avatar

Our host Melissa from Mom With a Blog, welcomes us to Monday Prosery at dVerse Pub. I was elated after searching through our archives and finding we have not (yet) used any of Poe’s work for a Prosery prompt. That changes today! What is Prosery? A very short piece of prose or flash fiction that tells a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. It can be any genre you choose, but it does have a limit of 144 words. Somewhere within your story, you must include given lines without changing word order or adding any words. You may add or change punctuation.

Edgar Allen Poe

In the quiet village of Saphiyaah, a legend whispered through the trees, a tale of the Eternal Sleeper. Deep within the ancient forest, where sunlight barely kissed the ground, lay the tomb of Elara, a maiden said to possess otherworldly beauty. Villagers spoke of her in hushed tones, fearing to disturb her eternal rest.

One moonlit night, a curious wanderer, entranced by the tales, ventured to the tomb. As he gazed upon her serene face, he felt a strange compulsion to speak. “I pray to God that she may lie forever with unopened eye,” he whispered, reverence lacing his voice.

Suddenly, a soft wind stirred the leaves, and an ethereal glow enveloped Elara. The wanderer stepped back, realizing that some beauty is meant to remain untouched, forever enshrined in the sanctity of slumber.

  3. I wonder if he will rest beside her (among the other lovers of he beauty)

  4. Lovely prose.

  5. I enjoyed the fairy tale nature of this story.

  6. I will work on a conclusion, 😉

  7. Oh, somehow, I think that was the wrong thing to say. Good luck curious wanderer, you know what happened to the curious cat.

  8. I enjoyed your other-worldly, authentic legend, Celeste. I would love to know what happened to the ‘curious wanderer’ after he woke Elara from the ‘sanctity of slumber’.
