NaPoWriMo challenges you to write – without consulting the book – a poem that recounts the plot, or some portion of the plot, of a novel that you remember having liked but that you haven’t read in a long time. I used Anne Rice “Interview with a Vampire:

In shadowed hues of night’s embrace,
New Orleans basks in gothic grace.
Louis, burdened by immortal woe,
Relives his tale from long ago.
Once a man of flesh and fears,
Swept by loss through bitter years,
Lestat appeared, both charm and blight,
And turned him ‘neath the moon’s pale light.
Together, through the centuries,
They danced through death’s dark tapestries.
Yet, Louis’ heart, though still and cold,
Yearned for warmth within its hold.

Young Claudia, a doll-like sprite,
Given eternal, cursed night,
Innocence bound in thirst so wild,
Forever trapped, the undead child.
Across the sea to Paris flown,
Seeking others of their own.
Ancient whispers in the dark—
At the Théâtre des Vampires, embark.
Armand, the oldest, wisdom’s face,
Offered truth within his embrace.
Yet, darker truths from shadows crept,
As Claudia’s rage no bounds accept.
A tale of love, of grief, of dread,
As through the world, the undead tread.
Bound by blood, by night, by fate,
In Louis’ words—the vampire’s state.
Thus ends the tale where darkness dwells,
In whispered voices, as he tells.
Of life and death through time entwined,
In Anne Rice’s words, forever bind.
