Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge on Lavender Lane

In a quaint little house on Lavender Lane,
Where the sun always shone, or it sweetly would rain,
Lived two feline friends, with mischief to spare,
One sleek coat of midnight, the other bright as a flare.

*

Now, the ginger named Ginger, was a curious sort,
Whose plans often led to the funniest sport.
And Sable, the black, with a serious face,
Found Ginger’s shenanigans quite the disgrace.

One day in a moment of frolic and jest,
Ginger said, “Let’s put our ninja skills to the test!”
He leaped with a bound to grab Sable’s back,
Declaring, “Onward, my steed, to the snack attack!”

*

Sable, though stern, could not help but laugh,
“What are you doing, you ridiculous calf?”
Ginger just purred, “I’ve read in a book,
That to get what we want, we must have the right look.”

“And what’s that?” asked Sable, amusement in tone,
“A fierce, mighty tiger, not some overgrown gnome!”
Ginger’s whiskers twitched, his eyes were alight,
“I’m your orange armor, together we’re dynamite!”

So, off they did pad, a team so bizarre,
To the kitchen they went, the cookie jar wasn’t far.
Ginger whispered, “I’ll climb, and you just purr loud,
We’ll have those treats eaten before we’re found out.”

*

But the jar was quite high, and the counter was slick,
Their plan was unfolding incredibly quick.
With a leap and a laugh, and a minor miscalculation,
They landed in a bowl, a salad’s foundation.

The humans arrived, to a sight most peculiar,
Two cats in a bowl, looking somewhat irregular.
One black, one orange, with lettuce adorned,
Looking quite regal, but also forlorn.

*

“Oh, Sable and Ginger,” the humans did chide,
“In mischief, you two truly do coincide.
But worry not, feline friends, you’re still our delight,
For even in salads, you’re a comical sight.”

So remember dear friends, when a plan’s in your head,
Make sure you think twice, or you’ll end up in veg.
For cats can be ninjas, or tigers, it’s true,
But sometimes they’re just clowns, through and through.
