This post is in response to: Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 13th and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “close up/close-up.” Use the verbal phrase “close up” and/or the noun/adjective “close-up” somewhere in your post, or write a post in the spirit of the phrase. Have fun!

Close-Up Catastrophes: The Art of Getting Too Close

Have you ever had a moment where you thought getting a close-up was a good idea, only to realize it was, in fact, a spectacularly bad one? Welcome to my world, where the phrase “close up” doesn’t just mean a photography technique, but a life lesson in “what not to do.”

First, let’s talk about close-up shots. In movies, they capture emotion. In my life, they capture the spinach between my teeth. The other day, I tried to take a close-up selfie to show off my new earrings. It ended up being a detailed exploration of my pores and a reminder that my phone camera is cruelly honest.

Then there’s the verbal phrase “close up.” It sounds like an innocent directive until you’re the one trying to close up a suitcase packed as if you’re moving to Mars. It’s a full-body workout, a test of wills, and a lesson in physics, all rolled into one. Whoever said, “Just sit on it, it’ll close,” clearly never met my suitcase.

Getting physically close up can be just as hazardous. Ever lean in close to smell a flower and end up with a bee up your nose? No? Just me? Trust me, it’s a buzzkill (pun fully intended). Or how about that time I leaned in close to hear a friend at a concert, and we both moved at the same time, resulting in a headbutt? The only thing I heard after that was the ringing in my ears.

Social media has its own brand of close-up disasters. Ever zoomed in on a photo to see something better, only to accidentally double-tap and ‘like’ your ex’s picture from 2015? Yeah, “close up” takes on a whole new level of panic then.

In the spirit of “close up,” let’s not forget those times when we wish things would close up, like my mouth at the dentist. There I am, trying to answer questions about my flossing habits while navigating a mouthful of hands and tools. It’s like a game show challenge but without the prize money.

So, the next time someone says “close up” or you’re tempted to get a close-up of something, remember these tales. Life’s full of close-up moments – some hilarious, some cringe-worthy, and some best left unzoomed.

In conclusion, whether it’s a camera lens or life getting a bit too close for comfort, remember to smile (but check your teeth first) and embrace the chaos. After all, it’s these close-up moments that make for the best stories!

Hope this post adds a good dose of humor to your day!
